While at California Pizza Kitchen, John ordered the BBQ chicken pizza that had cilantro on it.  Rowan asked for some, but said “take the grass off”.

Baby Cox #2, as we have been calling him, now has a name.  Rhett Lanne Cox.   This boy name was one that I have loved before we knew we were having another boy.  John and I have thrown around other names for the last few months and liked several, but none were better than Rhett.  It was just a coincidence that we picked another “R” name.  We knew that whatever second baby we had, boy or girl, would get my maiden name.

“Rhett’s origin is English, it is an aglicized form of a Dutch surname meaning “advice, counsel”. Quite notably, it is the name of a character in Margaret Mitchell’s “Gone with the Wind” and brought to the screen by legendary actor Clark Gable.”

(now I guess we need to see “Gone with the Wind”)

I went today and bought his name in navy letters for his wall!  Now we just need to paint and rearrange the whole room and closet, get out all the baby stuff and clothes – whew.

New Jersey Trip

Rowan has family in a lot of cool places.  We had not been up to see Leslie and Paul in Red Bank, NJ for quite some time and we were so excited to go.  Let me tell you, Rowan was not disappointed by all the fun things to do in NJ with his Aunt and Uncle.  If  swimming in the Pacific ocean in San Diego this summer was not already enough, we spent 2 amazing days in the Atlantic.  The weather and water were perfect.  Rowan loved wave jumping, running from the waves, going out deep in the water in someone’s arms and running on the sand.  He was not a fan of trying to ride a boogie board and going under in the salty water – maybe next time.  He still avoids the soft sand like the plague, but that didn’t stop us from spending several hours playing on the beach.

One night we hit up the crazy game & ride-filled boardwalk.  We played tons of games, won lots of prizes, indulged in ice cream, cotton candy and caramel apples.

Rowan took on his Aunt in Wii bowling one night and schooled her, 192-165 (his new best score)!!!  She did redeem herself against her (almost) 3 year old nephew the next day and won :)   Rowan was also entertained in the house by their two dogs, Cooper and Shaggy, and by our makeshift bowling alley with plastic cups.  He has not stopped talking about the trip and we are looking forward to going back next summer.

Rowan’s bowling obsession has continued.  We play with his foam bowling set on the wood floors in the house.  We did it for an hour the other day.  He plays on our iPhone and iPad.  We went back to the bowling alley with friends on the 4th of July.  His buddies Hayden and Brooklyn slowly lost interest after one game, but Rowan was still going strong.  In fact, he began bowling for Brooklyn when she didn’t want to anymore.  He can do Wii bowling all on his own now.  He scored a 135 the other day with several strikes and spares.  At his summer camp school he found a tiny ball and a little wood block and plays bowling with it on the table.  He cracks us up.  Maybe he has a future on the Professional Bowling Association tour!

He even has the pro-bowler leg kick, but he doesn’t have the timing quite worked out – it really works better at the end of your roll.
